A teacher is on the run after being booked in Daund, Pune district for allegedly sexually harassing a 13-year-old schoolgirl and sending her obscene messages, a police official confirmed on Thursday.
The school's headmaster has been detained for failing to report the matter to the authorities after the girl's father lodged a complaint, he added.
Officials have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Daund police station.
The incident allegedly occurred in a school in Daund tehsil. According to the girl's father, the teacher outraged the modesty of his daughter by sending an obscene message before August 15, to which the headmaster turned a blind eye, the official stated.
Authorities were notified of the incident today, prompting immediate action, including registering a case with the father's assistance. Allegedly, the teacher also inappropriately touched the girl and had an argument with her father on Wednesday before fleeing, the official informed.
