The driving licence of a man who rammed his SUV into his father's vehicle in a fit of rage, injuring four people in Thane district, will be cancelled, a senior official announced Thursday.

Satish Kumar Sharma, 38, has been arrested. The Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Department (MMVD) will start the procedure to cancel Sharma's driving licence once the police probe concludes, said transport commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar. "Presently, both vehicles are in police custody. Once the police investigation is over, the licence cancellation procedure will begin," he told PTI, adding that they will first issue a notice to the driver.

The incident stemmed from a family dispute, with Sharma allegedly reversing and ramming his black SUV head-on into his father's vehicle at Jambhali Naka in Ambernath. Four people, including three family members inside the SUV, were injured. Videos of the incident went viral on social media.

A Regional Transport Officer from Kalyan RTO mentioned that a Motor Vehicles Inspector has been sent to examine the two SUVs. "After receiving the inspector's report, further action will be initiated," he said.

A retired RTO official, who wished to remain unnamed, said the manner in which Sharma used his vehicle as a weapon suggests his licence should be cancelled after due procedure. "The driver did this out of anger, but he tried to harm people using his car as a weapon in public, indicating psychological issues. He is not fit to drive," the official said. Sharma has been arrested on charges of attempted murder and is in police custody until August 23.
