Ukraine Drone Strike Hits Russian Military Airfield in Volgograd
Ukraine executed a drone attack on Russia's Marinovka military airfield in Volgograd, targeting fuel and glide bombs storage. The operation, part of a broader campaign, caused a fire at the site but resulted in no casualties. The attack involved Ukraine's Security Service and special forces.
Ukraine conducted a drone attack on Russia's Marinovka military airfield in the southern Russian region of Volgograd, striking a storage site for fuel and glide bombs, a security source in Kyiv said on Thursday.
Earlier, Russian governor of the Volgograd region stated that a fire had broken out at a military facility in the region after a Ukrainian drone crashed into it. The official, Andrei Bocharov, confirmed there were no casualties. The attack is part of a Ukrainian campaign targeting Russian airfields used to conduct attacks on Ukraine.
Ukraine particularly highlighted Russia's use of cheaply-produced glide bombs fired by warplanes as a significant threat to eastern Ukrainian positions and urban areas. Despite recently receiving U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets, the Ukrainian air force remains outmatched by Russia's larger and better-equipped fleet. The drone attack was a collaborative effort by Ukraine's Security Service and special forces.
