A seven-year-old boy was tragically electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire at an unauthorized e-rickshaw charging station near a public toilet in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area, according to police announcements on Wednesday.
The victim, named Suraj, had left to use the public toilet on Tuesday morning when the fatal incident occurred. The boy's family held a demonstration thereafter, demanding justice. Authorities have since detained Ramnath Rai, aged 51, for allegedly managing the illicit charging station.
Police investigations revealed that Rai, an e-rickshaw driver, siphoned electricity from the public toilet to charge his vehicle. CCTV footage showed that Suraj inadvertently touched an e-rickshaw connected to the live wire, leading to his immediate collapse and subsequent death at a nearby hospital.
