Former prime minister Imran Khan has called for an open court trial for ex-Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General (retd.) Faiz Hameed, should his involvement in the May 9 unrest be proven.
Khan expressed fears that Hameed might be coerced into being a state witness against him in the fallout from the violence. He emphasized the need for transparency, asserting that the issue transcends internal military matters and should be tackled in a civil court to protect Pakistan's international standing.
The arrest of Hameed was announced last week, following accusations from a private property developer. Khan disassociated himself from Hameed post-retirement, denying any ongoing contact or benefit. He underscored that resolving the issue through a civil court is paramount for safeguarding both individual rights and national dignity.
