Protests Erupt at MCD House Over Mayor's Delay and Governance Issues

At the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House, opposition councillors protested against Mayor Shelly Oberoi for her delayed arrival, causing proceedings to be delayed. Heavy sloganeering ensued, leading to multiple adjournments. BJP councillors also protested outside over several issues, including the appointment of a Dalit mayor and garbage clearance.

At the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House, a ruckus broke out as opposition councillors protested Mayor Shelly Oberoi's late arrival, which delayed the proceedings.

Chaos erupted with heavy sloganeering once Oberoi arrived, leading to the meeting being adjourned shortly after for 15 minutes.

BJP and Congress councillors stormed into the Well of the House, demanding Oberoi's resignation and chanting slogans like 'Mayor Hai Hai' and 'Corrupt Mayor Shame On You.'

The House was adjourned again for 30 minutes as the protest continued, and Mayor Oberoi suspended three BJP councillors.

The session, which started over 50 minutes late, was further delayed by protests addressing issues like the pending appointment of a Dalit mayor, garbage clearance, waterlogging, and the standing committee's formation.

Heavy police presence was noted at the civic body office to manage the situation.
