A 50-year-old man and his son were apprehended on Tuesday for allegedly murdering a middle-aged couple following a petty altercation in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, according to a senior police officer.

The incident reportedly took place at Ruwadiri village under the jurisdiction of the Sonua police station, as informed by the police officer.

The victims and the accused were neighbors and had a history of frequent quarrels, he added.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar stated that the disagreement on August 16 was over plucking fruits from a Kusum tree in the village.

The altercation intensified on Sunday, leading Turam Chatar (50) and his son Topo Chatar alias Tui (24) to commit the murder by slitting the throats of the couple with sharp weapons.

The victims were identified as Mugdu Champaia (50) and his wife Mariam Champia (45). Their bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, the SP mentioned.

The accused were arrested following the registering of a case. Police also seized the weapons and clothing used in the crime and have forwarded the accused to judicial custody, the SP noted.
