The Congress in Karnataka is gearing up for state-wide protests following Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's decision to approve the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah concerning the MUDA alternative site 'scam'.
The Governor's sanction, based on complaints from three activists, alleges Siddaramaiah used his position to secure sites in posh Mysuru localities for his wife using fake documents. The chief minister has denied these allegations, pledging to contest the charges legally.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, also the Congress state president, rallied party leaders and workers to engage in kilometre-long marches to Taluk and district offices, submitting memoranda to the President against the Governor's move. Shivakumar accused the BJP and JD(S) of a conspiracy against Siddaramaiah and called on party members to protest in large numbers.
Congress leaders have condemned the alleged misuse of the Governor's office, with the state Cabinet backing the chief minister and rejecting calls for his resignation.
