Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, appeared before the CBI for the second consecutive day for questioning in connection with the rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor.

On Friday, the agency escorted Ghosh for a marathon interrogation session that lasted until 1:40 am on Saturday. He was held at the CBI's city office at the CGO Complex until 9:30 pm before his questioning began.

Ghosh returned to the CBI office a little before 10:30 am on Saturday for further questioning. His statements on his initial reaction to the doctor's death, communication with the victim's family, and the police were scrutinized, the officer said.

Answers provided by Ghosh were described as convoluted, leading to extended questioning before he was allowed to leave for home early Saturday. He was summoned again for further questioning that morning.

The CBI examined the weekly roster, revealing the victim's grueling 36 to 48-hour shifts. Ghosh had resigned from his post shortly after the body was discovered, citing fears of being attacked which led to a request for legal protection from the Calcutta High Court.

The body of the trainee doctor was found on August 9 in the hospital's seminar room, followed by the arrest of a civic volunteer the next day. A CBI team carried out further investigations at the medical college on Saturday, collecting samples for forensic analysis.

Another team visited the Kolkata Police's fourth battalion barracks, interviewing colleagues about the accused's movements. The CBI has a list of 40 individuals, including doctors and police officers, scheduled for questioning, with 13 already interrogated.
