Naga groups have welcomed the consultative meeting convened by the Nagaland government, viewing it as a significant step toward resolving the long-standing Naga political issue. Optimism abounds that this initiative will clear all existing obstacles.

The Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) appreciated the Nagaland government for calling a joint consultative meet on this crucial political issue. According to a statement from its media cell, the initiative should clear away all cobwebs obstructing a political solution.

The meeting scheduled for Thursday will include legislators, MPs, and other key stakeholders. The WC, NNPGs highlighted that a prior dialogue ended in 2015 with a Framework Agreement, a document still shrouded in secrecy. In 2017, the Centre officially invited the WC, NNPGs for further political negotiations, leading to the Agreed Position on November 17.

The consultative meeting, operating within Nagaland's executive power scope, must endorse all state-related matters to ensure that unresolved political issues are negotiated through new legislative and constitutional bodies. The WC, NNPGs expressed hopes that the resolution would not revert sole responsibility back to the Naga political groups.

The statement stressed the importance of endorsing prior agreements with the Government of India to boost confidence and prompt immediate political settlement implementation. It concluded by urging Nagaland's political and tribal leadership to prioritize territorial integrity while respecting rights in neighboring states.
