Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has permitted the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah concerning the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment scam. Gehlot asserted the necessity of conducting a neutral and non-partisan investigation, citing sufficient evidence of criminal activity.
The Governor criticized the state Council of Ministers for advising the withdrawal of his showcause notice to Siddaramaiah, labeling their decision irrational. He emphasized that serious allegations necessitate impartial scrutiny notwithstanding internal governmental counsel to the contrary.
Gehlot's sanction, influenced by a petition from advocate-activist T J Abraham, raises significant concerns over the propriety of MUDA's site allocations and emphasizes the Governor's discretionary powers in exceptional circumstances as upheld by the Supreme Court.
