Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasized the pivotal role of the Constitution in safeguarding the rights of dalits, oppressed, and deprived sections of society. Addressing the nation on the 78th Independence Day, Modi urged citizens to focus on their duties enshrined in the document.

He asserted that when citizens collectively fulfill their responsibilities, they inherently become guardians of each other's rights. Modi noted that the 75th anniversary of the Constitution's adoption offers a momentous opportunity to reflect on its role in uniting and fortifying the nation.

Modi's comments come amidst a controversy surrounding the Supreme Court's judgement on sub-categorization of SC/ST reservations, with the opposition accusing the BJP of attempting to alter the Constitution—a charge the ruling party has strongly denied.
