On July 25, 2024, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) officially handed over keys to the renovated Upper East Regional Peace Council (UERPC) office, following a $75,000 investment (1,162,000 Ghana Cedis). This upgrade aims to bolster the UERPC’s efforts in fostering peace and stability in the region through dialogue, mediation, and other non-violent methods.

Secretary of the UERPC, Ali Anankpieng, expressed gratitude for the new facilities, highlighting the benefits of the renovation: “The new office provides us with a dedicated conference room for meetings and sensitive discussions, enhancing privacy and security in our operations.”

The renovation includes three offices, a reception area, a storage room, a kitchen, and a conference room, all designed to improve working conditions and support the UERPC’s peacebuilding activities.

Dalia Haj-Omar, Deputy Country Representative of USAID/OTI, emphasized the significance of the project: “The successful completion of this renovation highlights the United States’ commitment to advancing peace, stability, and sustainable development in Ghana and West Africa.”

Since 2021, USAID/OTI has been actively supporting the UERPC in addressing peace and security challenges by facilitating mediation and dialogue among disputing groups and establishing multi-ethnic mediation committees.

As Ghana's largest bilateral development partner, the United States continues to play a pivotal role in promoting regional security, inclusive economic development, and strengthening long-term development relationships.
