Family Charged After Alleged Molestation and Assault in Thane

Authorities in Thane district of Maharashtra have filed an FIR against a man and three of his family members after allegations surfaced of the molestation of a 19-year-old woman and the assault of her brother. The incident is reported to have taken place Monday evening in Bhiwandi.

According to police reports, the victim, a ragpicker from Sundar Nagar slum colony, was on her way to fetch water from a public tap when she was approached, taken behind bushes, and allegedly molested by one man. The woman managed to escape and alerted her brother, who then confronted the accused.

In the confrontation that followed, the accused and his relatives allegedly assaulted the woman's brother, hitting him on the head with an iron rod. The brother sustained severe injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Police have charged the suspects under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including assault and causing grievous harm.
