Police in Maharashtra's Thane district have successfully dismantled a prostitution racket, rescuing five women, according to officials.
Two women and a man were apprehended for their involvement in the illegal operation. Acting on a tip-off, the anti-human trafficking cell conducted a sting operation with a decoy customer at a restaurant-cum-bar on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Kashimira on Friday, stated Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal.
The police arrested a 26-year-old woman from Delhi now residing in Mumbai, a 43-year-old woman, and a 40-year-old man, both from Mira Road. Authorities confiscated cash, a car, and other items valued at Rs 10.66 lakh from the suspects. Five women were rescued and placed in a shelter home. Charges were filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections related to human trafficking and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
