Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday offered a glimmer of hope to a grieving family by handing over the appointment letter for a government job to Renu Sharma, the widow of bus driver Vijay Kumar, who was among nine persons killed in a terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi.

Renu Sharma was given the job on compassionate grounds during a solemn function held at Raj Bhawan, a spokesperson reported. The grisly incident occurred on June 9 when terrorists opened fire at the 53-seater bus, causing it to veer off-road and plunge into a deep gorge near the Teryath village of the Poni area in Reasi district.

The attack not only claimed the lives of Kumar (40), his conductor Arun Kumar (19), and seven other pilgrims but also left 41 others injured. Kumar is survived by his wife, two minor children, and his mother. Reasi Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan and other family members were present at the event.
