SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday urged the BJP-led central government to consult the Muslim population before making any changes to the Waqf Act.

The proposed Waqf (Amendment) Bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha, has been referred to a joint parliamentary panel after a heated debate. The government maintained that the law intends no interference with mosque operations, while the opposition sees it as targeting Muslims and an attack on the Constitution.

Badal highlighted that past decisions, such as forming a separate Gurdwara Committee for Haryana, have alienated minority communities, leading to widespread discontent. He insisted that without proper consultation and approval from the Muslim community, such amendments should not proceed.
