The Rajya Sabha witnessed a heated exchange on Wednesday as the opposition Congress party raised concerns over the omission of the Preamble from NCERT textbooks. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge claimed this move was an attempt to impose a communal ideology on the nation.
Raising the issue, Kharge emphasized the importance of educating future generations on the foundational principles of the Indian Constitution, quoting from a 1948 Constituent Assembly debate. He argued that political democracy must be underpinned by social democracy, emphasizing liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Union Minister J P Nadda countered Kharge's claims, stating that the government, under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, is fully committed to the Constitution. He accused Congress of historical constitutional violations, asserting the continuous protection of the Preamble.
