The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Saturday issued notices to the Delhi government and the city's police chief after alarming reports surfaced alleging that 12 inmates died within a month at a shelter home in Rohini.
The deaths at the government-run shelter home, Asha Kiran, between July 15 and July 31, have been attributed to symptoms such as loose motion and vomiting, indicating systemic negligence, according to an NHRC statement.
The commission has sought a detailed report from the chief secretary of the Delhi government and the police commissioner within four weeks. The report is expected to cover the status of FIRs, actions taken against responsible officials, and steps to prevent future incidents.
