A 23-year-old man, Akhilesh Sharma, allegedly shot himself in the head during a video call with a woman who had been blackmailing him, police reported on Wednesday.
The two had been in a relationship, and the woman was reportedly extorting money from Sharma over a recorded video. The tragic incident took place inside Sharma's car near the Saraiya petrol pump in Gorakhpur's Gulriha area on Tuesday night.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Grover stated that the initial investigation points to suicide. Sharma, a father of two and a private company employee, had been severely distressed. His family alleges that the woman, previously married three times, drove him to this extreme step. The police recovered a gun from his car and have sent the body for post-mortem. A detailed investigation is currently underway.
