The Municipal Corporate of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday launched a sealing drive in east Delhi's Preet Vihar targeting coaching centres running commercial activities in their basements.

This action follows similar drives in Mukherjee Nagar and Rajendra Nagar, key UPSC coaching hubs, over the past two days.

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi was present as the civic body took rigorous measures against the illegally operated basements of coaching institutes.

The drive has sealed 20 basements across Mukherjee Nagar and Rajinder Nagar, cracking down on unlawful commercial use of these spaces.

On Sunday, 13 such establishments were sealed in Rajinder Nagar, with six more closures on Tuesday, and one in Mukherjee Nagar on Monday.

In light of the tragic deaths of three UPSC aspirants due to basement flooding at Rau's IAS Study Circle, the MCD, led by commissioner Ashwani Kumar and Mayor Oberoi, announced the continuation of these sealing drives throughout the city.
