Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives due to landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district on Tuesday. He assured Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of comprehensive support from the Centre to manage the crisis.

The Prime Minister declared an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Official reports confirm that eight people, including three children, lost their lives in the landslides that struck the hilly region of Wayanad.

In a post on X, Modi shared his distress over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families while praying for the injured. He highlighted that rescue operations are currently in progress to assist those affected.

Modi also had discussions with Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, ensuring all necessary help from the Centre. He further communicated with Union ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurien about the situation.

The Prime Minister requested BJP president J P Nadda to mobilize party workers in the area to aid in the ongoing relief efforts.
