Jharkhand's Chief Minister Hemant Soren has significantly advanced women's financial empowerment by transferring Rs 1,415.44 crore to 56.61 lakh women beneficiaries. This financial boost was provided under the 'Maiyan Samman Yojana', a scheme aimed at enhancing the state's women's economic welfare.
The transfer was conducted at a ceremony in Namkum, delayed from its original December 28 date due to national mourning over former prime minister Manmohan Singh's passing. Soren emphasized, "The state, which underwent exploitation for decades, is ready for a new flight."
The 'Maiyan Samman Yojana' is vital to the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led alliance's electoral success. Initially launched in August to provide Rs 1,000 monthly to women aged 18-50, the scheme's monthly honorarium will rise to Rs 2,500 starting in December 2024.
