On July 29, 2024, a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, reviewed and approved several significant capital acquisition proposals.

One key decision was the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for procuring the Advanced Land Navigation System (ALNS) for the Indian Army’s Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs). This state-of-the-art system, characterized by its spoof-proof technology and high encryption levels, will enhance the navigational capabilities of the AFVs. The ALNS Mk-II is designed to be compatible with the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, NAVigation using Indian Constellation (IRNSS/NavIC), as well as Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS). It also integrates with Defence Series Maps, ensuring high accuracy for military navigation. The system will be procured from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Chennai, under the Buy Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured (IDDm) category.

Additionally, the DAC granted AoN for the acquisition of 22 advanced Interceptor Boats for the Indian Coast Guard. These boats are equipped with the latest technologies for rapid interception and effective operations in shallow waters. They will be deployed for coastal surveillance, patrolling, search and rescue missions, and medical evacuations.

These acquisitions are expected to significantly bolster the operational capabilities of the Indian Army and Coast Guard, enhancing their effectiveness in both defense and maritime security roles.
