A special postal cover, acknowledging the indispensable contributions of mules and their handlers, has been unveiled as a tribute to their historical role in the military, an Army representative announced on Wednesday.
The cover commemorates the storied achievements of the Animal Transport (Mountain Artillery) units. Despite innovations in military logistics, such as drones and robotic mules, these units are being retired from active duty, according to the official.
The ceremonial day cover was launched by the Army Postal Service Corps to honor the pivotal role mules and muleteers have played in military history. The event featured a prestigious gathering, including top military leaders such as Lt Gen VMB Krishnan and Lt Gen Preet Mohindera Singh.
