India has confirmed receiving a formal objection from Dhaka regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's recent remarks about offering shelter to individuals affected by violent clashes in Bangladesh.

During his weekly media briefing, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal indicated disapproval of Banerjee's comments, asserting that matters involving foreign relations fall solely under the central government's jurisdiction.

Addressing a public event in Kolkata, Banerjee mentioned she would keep West Bengal's doors open for those in distress from Bangladesh, citing humanitarian reasons. Dhaka has expressed its discontent through diplomatic channels, Jaiswal confirmed. The situation in Bangladesh has reportedly stabilized since the clashes began.
