The Central government has issued a directive for an insurance company to settle pending claims amounting to up to Rs 225 crore, benefiting approximately 2 lakh farmers in Maharashtra's Parbhani district within a week.

The move comes after Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan interacted with farmers in Nanded on August 21, where concerns about unresolved soyabean crop insurance claims were discussed.

The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare held a National Technical Advisory Committee meeting on August 22, which rejected the insurance company's objections to crop-cutting experiments and mandated the settlement of the claims.

Although the name of the insurance company was not disclosed, the swift action is expected to provide significant financial relief to the farmers in the Marathwada region, which is known for its soyabean cultivation.
