The Uttar Pradesh Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested an individual identified as Ashraf Ali for allegedly operating an illegal telephone exchange in Jaunpur. The exchange is accused of bypassing international gateways to convert international calls into local ones.

The arrest took place in Dullipur in the Baksha area, according to an official ATS statement. The illegal exchange, linked to potential activities like radicalisation and terror funding, resulted in revenue losses.

Seized items included a sim box, adapter, 4G router, 64 pre-activated sims, five mobile phones, and a laptop. Ashraf admitted receiving the sim box from Muhammad Ali in Saudi Arabia, earning him Rs 1 lakh per month. The ATS has filed an FIR under multiple Indian laws.
