Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, the Vice Chief of the Indian Navy, addressed the recent incident involving the indigenous frigate INS Brahmaputra, which tilted after a blaze broke out onboard. Speaking on Tuesday, he assured that the vessel can be made upright and a damage assessment will follow.

Swaminathan confirmed that a sailor, who went missing post the Sunday fire, was seen walking out of the ship and that a search operation is ongoing to locate him. He emphasized that an enquiry will be conducted and any necessary corrective measures will be implemented.

The Navy had revealed that a fire erupted on the multi-role frigate on July 21 while it was undergoing refit at Naval Dockyard Mumbai. The fire was controlled by the ship's crew, dockyard firefighters, and other vessels by Monday morning, but the ship experienced severe listing to one side. Swaminathan explained that the excess water used to extinguish the fire destabilized the ship, causing it to tilt. He reassured that the ship can be restored once the water is pumped out.
