A 28-year-old autorickshaw driver from Thane has been charged with kidnapping a 17-year-old girl and threatening her with an acid attack, police revealed on Monday.

The victim and the accused, identified as Nitesh Gaikwad, were previously acquainted. The incident transpired around 10 AM on Saturday near Vicco Naka on Kalyan-Shil Road.

Gaikwad allegedly forcibly pulled the girl into his rickshaw, smashed her headphones, and later assaulted her before driving off. He reportedly stopped the rickshaw, held her by the neck and hands, and threatened to disrupt her education and throw chemicals on her face if she maintained relations with another man.

A FIR has been filed under various sections related to kidnapping, assault, threats, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. No arrests have been made yet, and further investigation is ongoing.
