Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy arrived in New Delhi on Sunday for a two-day visit aimed at inviting top Congress leaders to a public meeting in Warangal centered on farm-debt waiver programmes.

Sources disclosed that Reddy is scheduled to meet Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and is also likely to seek an audience with former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for the event.

The chief minister intends to inform the Congress leadership that since the farm-loan waiver was announced in Warangal during the Assembly poll campaign, it would be appropriate for the party to hold a public meeting in the city to underline its implementation, according to sources.

On July 18, the Telangana government initiated the first phase of the loan waiver scheme, crediting Rs 6,098 crore to farmers' bank accounts. This phase covers loans of up to Rs 1 lakh. The scheme will unfold in three phases, with the second phase addressing loans of up to Rs 1.5 lakh by July-end and the final phase covering up to Rs 2 lakh in August.

Reddy's visit to Delhi follows the launch of this flagship scheme, emphasizing its significance on the Congress government's agenda. The farm loan waiver was a pivotal promise that contributed to the party's electoral success in the southern state.
