Tragic Fire Claims Indian Family's Lives Upon Return from Kerala

In a devastating incident, an Indian family perished in a fire at their flat in Kuwait City, local authorities confirmed on Saturday.

The fire broke out on Friday night, the same day the family returned from Kerala after a vacation.

Identified as Mathews Mulackal, his wife Lini Abraham, and their two children, the victims hailed from Neerattupuram in Alappuzha. The fire, caused by a short circuit in the air conditioner, occurred around 8 pm in their second-floor flat in the Abbasiya area, according to The Arab Times.

"The family had returned to Kuwait from a vacation in Kerala, arriving around 4 pm local time on Friday. Mathews Mulackal worked at Reuters, while his wife Lini served as a staff nurse at Adan Hospital in Al Ahmadi Governorate. Their children attended Bhavans School in Kuwait," the newspaper reported.

A relative in Kerala said, ''Mathews has been working there for the past 15 years. They left for Kuwait after their vacation on Thursday night from Nedumbassery Airport.''

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait said it is in contact with the family in Kerala and will expedite the repatriation of their mortal remains.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar fire accident that killed 45 Indians in a labor accommodation last month.

Major General Khaled Fahd, the acting head of the General Fire Force, was present at the scene and confirmed that their teams had successfully controlled the blaze. The Indian Embassy also expressed its condolences on its X platform, committing to aiding the repatriation process.
