Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday assured that the development of the temple town Pandharpur will be carried out only after consulting its residents, ensuring no decisions are imposed on them.

On the eve of Ashadhi Ekadashi, Shinde emphasized the necessity for comprehensive development in Pandharpur, a town visited by lakhs of warkaris (devotees of Lord Vitthal). The customary mahapuja of Lord Vitthal is performed by the chief minister and his wife on Ashadhi Ekadashi every year.

Significantly, the Mahayuti government plans to develop Pandharpur along the lines of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor. Addressing an event, Shinde responded to criticism about using a helicopter to travel to his village in Satara district, explaining that it saves considerable time and allows him to address more public issues.

Shinde, identifying himself as a farmer's son, defended his actions, stating that the time saved by helicopter travel is crucial for addressing the issues faced by thousands of people. He also highlighted his government's efforts, including the relaxation of norms to ensure that farmers affected by adverse weather receive maximum compensation. According to Shinde, Rs 15,000 crore has been paid to farmers over two years, with an additional Rs 44,000 crore spent on various farmer-centric schemes.
