The Noida Police have detained a man identified as Jitendra for allegedly concocting a false car theft report, as disclosed by an officer on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson revealed that the accused, hailing from Delhi, worked as a cab driver and intended to deceive his employer who owned the vehicle.

On Monday, the 35-year-old reported to Sector 126 Police Station that his Maruti Swift had been stolen by 'unknown thieves.' The police promptly registered a case under section 303(2) of the BNS and formed a special team to investigate.

In less than 24 hours, police tracked down the missing vehicle, discovering that Jitendra had hidden it near the Yamuna floodplains a day prior. When apprehended, he confessed to fabricating the theft scenario out of greed.

The police spokesman further reported that Jitendra admitted to removing the vehicle's GPS system and discarding it onto a passing vehicle, subsequently hiding the car and falsely reporting it stolen to both the police and his employer for personal gain.

Based on his confession and the recovery of both the car and the GPS system, additional charges under sections 318(4), 316(4), 217, and 317(2) BNS were added to the case.
