Addressing the inaugural session of the Orientation Programme for the new MBA batch at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Jagti, Jammu, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, highlighted the critical importance of robust industry-management linkages for the sustainability of start-ups.

Industry Linkages Vital for Start-Ups:

Dr. Singh underscored that many successful start-ups owe their achievements to strong industry connections.

He cited the Aroma Mission as an example where government intervention facilitated capacity building and market access for agri start-ups, particularly in lavender farming, enhancing the sale of Himalayan products.

Role of Institutions like IIM:

The Minister emphasized the significant role that institutions like IIM can play in fostering industry linkages.

He noted that tapping into Himalayan bio-resources and unexplored coastal minerals can significantly boost India's economy and contribute to the vision of ‘AtmaNirbharta’ (self-reliance).

Opportunities for the Aspirational Generation:

Dr. Singh highlighted the better opportunities available under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, with start-ups booming and new avenues opening.

He stressed the role of technology as a great leveller, providing equal opportunities to all regions.

Vision for India 2047:

Calling on the youth to prepare for leadership roles, Dr. Singh stated that they will be the architects of a developed India by 2047, marking the centenary of India’s Independence.

He mentioned the government’s efforts to equip the younger generation with skills, training, and world-class education, supported by the NEP 2020.

Progress of IIM Jammu:

Dr. Singh praised the rapid development of IIM Jammu, noting its rise among the new premier institutions of higher learning in India.

He highlighted the significance of IIM Jammu in realizing the dream of quality education and leadership development, aiming for unprecedented growth and development by 2047.

Call for Collaboration:

Advocating for collaboration among institutions, Dr. Singh declared the end of working in silos, encouraging partnerships between IIM-Jammu, AIIMS-Jammu, IIT-Jammu, and the Central University of Jammu.

He suggested inking MoUs on research, development, and artificial intelligence for mutual benefit.

During his visit, Dr. Singh toured the state-of-the-art campus of IIM-Jammu, accompanied by its Director, Prof. B.S. Sahay, and Director of AIIMS, Jammu, Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta. He also planted a sapling on the occasion.

This orientation session marks a step towards equipping the next generation of leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive India towards its future economic and technological goals.
