Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has ordered MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar to investigate an infant's death at Kasturba Hospital, allegedly due to a power backup failure. This direction follows reports of an infant's death during a planned power shutdown on August 22.

Oberoi's order emphasized the need for an immediate inquiry to identify the root cause of the incident and ensure accountability. The directive comes after social media claims suggested newborns were delivered under torchlight during the power outage, resulting in one infant's death.

The MCD has denied these allegations, asserting that power backups were functioning in the hospital's OT and NICU. According to the MCD, the infant was on a ventilator but died due to illness, not a power failure.
