The Supreme Court on Monday declined to grant interim bail to activist Jyoti Jagtap, who remains incarcerated in connection with the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case.

A bench comprising Justices MM Sundresh and Aravind Kumar also adjourned the hearing on Jagtap's primary bail plea. 'We are not inclined to give interim bail,' stated Justice Sundresh.

Jagtap, detained since September 2020, appealed to the apex court after the October 17, 2022, high court order denied bail, deeming the National Investigation Agency's case against her 'prima facie true' and labeling her part of a broader conspiracy by the banned CPI (Maoist). Investigators allege that provocative speeches at the 2017 Elgar Parishad conclave, in which Jagtap participated, incited violence at Koregaon-Bhima on January 1, 2018. She is charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
