In a move to curb hate speech, two clerics in Anantnag district have been bound down by police authorities for using inflammatory language aimed at a specific community, officials said on Saturday.
The clerics, identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri and Abdul Rashid Dawood, were apprehended after their remarks were brought to the attention of the Anantnag Police. The police promptly initiated proceedings against the duo.
Bounding down requires that the individuals give an official undertaking to maintain good conduct and abstain from committing any further offenses. Law enforcement officials are calling on the public to report any instances of hate speech or inflammatory remarks immediately.
