Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted a significant religious event via a social media post. The Indian embassy in Lebanon shared the consecration of Mor Gregorious Joseph as the Catholicos of the Jacobite Syrian Christians in India, a ceremony held in Beirut.
An Indian delegation was present at the event, led by former Union Minister K J Alphons. Key attendees included former Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan, Lok Sabha MP Benny Behanan, and Ambassador Noor Rahman. Alphons had the honor of reading PM Modi's letter, a gesture appreciated by the Catholic leadership.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratluated the newly ordained Baselios Joseph I. The ordination ceremony, directed by Ignatius Aphrem II, occurred at the Patriarchal Cathedral. The Kerala government was also represented by a delegation led by Law Minister P Rajeev.
