A Kenyan national was arrested at the Bengaluru international airport after being found with cocaine worth Rs 30 crore, officials announced on Saturday.

The arrest followed intelligence inputs received by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) from its Bengaluru zonal unit.

The Kenyan, who flew from Doha to Bengaluru on an Indigo flight, was intercepted by DRI officers after extensive surveillance. A detailed examination of the passenger's baggage revealed packages containing off-white powdered substance, weighing three kilograms, concealed in the false bottom of the luggage, according to a senior official.

''The powdered substance tested positive for cocaine using a field testing kit. The passenger was arrested under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, 1985. Further investigations are underway,'' the official stated.

In a separate incident, DRI officers intercepted two Indian female passengers arriving from Bangkok at Bengaluru International Airport on July 5. A systematic search of their bags revealed silver-colored packets. A greenish substance in lumpy form, which tested to be hydronic weed, was recovered from the packets.

The packets, weighing 3.2 kilograms and valued at Rs 3 crore, were seized, and the passengers were arrested and placed under judicial custody under the provisions of the NDPS Act, the official added.
