China Condemns NATO's Rhetoric in Washington Summit Statement

The Chinese mission to the European Union has condemned the NATO summit in Washington, labeling its statement as filled with 'belligerent rhetoric' and 'provocations and lies' concerning China.

The draft communique from NATO pointed fingers at China, claiming it plays a decisive role in enabling Russia's military actions in Ukraine and poses systemic threats to European security.

A Chinese spokesperson countered, declaring that Beijing has always advocated for peace talks and political resolution in Ukraine, a position recognized internationally.

Moreover, China has consistently rebuffed NATO's criticisms, warning against its extension into the Asia-Pacific region. Likewise, leaders from Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia, attending the NATO summit, have tightened relations with the alliance due to worries over Chinese activities in the South China Sea.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for China's foreign ministry reiterated, 'We firmly oppose NATO overstepping its regional defensive role by meddling in the Asia-Pacific, stirring confrontation, and disrupting stability.'
