Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has highlighted the coalition government's successful execution of its second quarter Action Plan, emphasizing significant achievements in economic revitalization, law and order reforms, and enhanced public services.

"Our Government Action Plan has been sharply focused on rebuilding the economy, reducing living costs, restoring law and order, and delivering improved public services," Luxon stated. "These were the mandates Kiwis voted for, and we have moved swiftly and decisively to fulfill these commitments."

Luxon praised his team for achieving 35 out of 36 actions outlined in the plan, with progress well underway on the remaining objective. Building on the momentum of their initial 100-Day Plan, the government successfully completed 49 actions, underscoring their commitment to sustained progress.

"We are determined not to slow down," Luxon affirmed. "New Zealand faces significant challenges, and we recognize the need for continued action to reverse the declining outcomes of recent years."

Key Achievements

  • Budgetary Discipline and Investment: The government delivered a budget focused on reducing wasteful spending while enhancing frontline services in health, education, and law enforcement.

  • Tax Relief and Family Support: Significant tax relief was provided to hardworking New Zealanders, complemented by the introduction of the FamilyBoost tax credit aimed at supporting young families with childcare costs.

  • Social and Justice Reforms: Key legislative reforms included restoring the Three Strikes policy and establishing a new Young Serious Offender category to hold persistent offenders accountable.

  • Infrastructure Development: The establishment of a Regional Infrastructure Fund aimed at stimulating economic growth in regional areas marked a pivotal step in bolstering local economies.

  • Education Reform: Initiatives to improve educational outcomes were launched, notably the rollout of structured literacy programs in primary schools starting from 2025. Additionally, legislation to reintroduce Charter Schools is in progress.

Ongoing Initiatives

Luxon acknowledged that the partial completion of actions related to the disestablishment of Te Pūkenga, pending consultation, remains a priority. A consultation document outlining proposed changes is scheduled for release in the coming weeks.

"New Zealanders entrusted us to deliver, and that is precisely what we are doing," Luxon affirmed, concluding the update on the coalition government's ongoing commitment to fulfilling its promises and driving positive change across the nation.
