In a significant development, the West Bengal CID on Sunday transferred notorious gangster Subodh Singh from Bihar's Beur Central Jail to Paschim Bardhaman district. This move comes in connection with recent dacoity cases at jewellery stores and multiple extortion calls, officials revealed.

Singh's name came up during interrogations of other suspects apprehended for jewellery store heists in Paschim Bardhaman and Howrah over the last year. The gangster was presented at a court in Asansol.

Further, Singh was linked to an incident where a businessman in Barrackpore, near Kolkata, was fired upon by two bikers on June 15. The businessman, Ajay Mondal, claimed that after the shootout, Singh called him several times urging a settlement to avoid future conflicts, officials added.

Additionally, Singh has been implicated in dacoity cases at jewellery showrooms in Nadia and Purulia districts in August 2023. The CID plans to question Singh about the 2021 murder of BJP Yuva Morcha leader Manish Shukla at Titagarh and the killing of coal mafia Raju Jha in Purba Bardhaman district.
