In a startling revelation, three youths with merely a 10th-grade education have been arrested for allegedly defrauding a Nagpur resident of Rs 5 lakh through a well-orchestrated online scam. The accused, identified as Atul Indrapati Singh (32), Neeraj Shamkumar Choubey (26), and Vikas Meghlal Saw (23), were apprehended from Mumbai earlier this week.
According to the Nagpur Cyber Police, the trio founded a company named Samarth IT Solutions, listing their contact details on Google in a bid to lure unsuspecting victims. In May, Nagpur resident Atul Uike faced issues with the PhonePe app and contacted the scam company's listed number. During a video call, the fraudsters manipulated Uike's phone settings, promising to fix the app by night.
Over the next two days, Rs 5 lakh was transferred from Uike's account in three separate transactions. Prompted by the unauthorized transactions, Uike lodged a complaint with the cyber police, leading to the arrests. Authorities warn users to verify contact details of service providers from official sources.
