Three people, including a woman, were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and selling a one-year-old child near Tagore Garden Metro Station in west Delhi, police said on Monday.
The suspects, identified as Manish Kumar Gupta (27) and Mohit Tiwari, kidnapped the child and sold it to 40-year-old Shobha for Rs 3 lakh in Sitamarhi, Bihar.
On June 13, Rajouri Garden Police Station received information about two individuals on a motorcycle kidnapping a child from a family sleeping roadside near Tagore Garden Metro Station, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer.
Poonam, a street vendor who filed the complaint, informed police that she was sleeping on the road divider near the metro station when someone took her child from her arms and fled on a motorcycle. Police reviewed over 100 CCTV recordings and shortlisted around 300 motorcycles, leading to the arrest of Manish Kumar Gupta in Northwest Delhi's Narela.
Gupta confessed to committing the crime with accomplice Mohit Tiwari, who was later apprehended from Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. Tiwari disclosed that they sold the child to Shobha in Bihar's Sitamarhi.
Upon her arrest, Shobha admitted to purchasing the child for Rs 3 lakh, the DCP added.
