A complaint has been lodged against the aides of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa for allegedly threatening eye-witnesses in the Renukaswamy murder case, police revealed in a remand note presented in court on Saturday.
The police, after producing Darshan and three others before the court, stated that they were withholding the names of the eyewitnesses for their safety.
"A complaint has been lodged against the aides of the accused number two (Darshan) for threatening the eye-witnesses of the case at the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station," the remand note read.
Actress Pavithra Gowda (A1), Darshan (A2) and others involved in the case have been accused of continually obstructing the investigation. In court, police charged all the accused with attempting to destroy material evidence.
Regarding Renukaswamy's phone, police stated, "The court is requested to grant permission to apply for Renukaswamy's SIM card from the service provider to 're-access' the data in the mobile phone, which the accused had thrown in the Sumanahalli Stormwater Drain to destroy the data." The police also told the court that all the accused coordinated through a web application and destroyed data, prompting a request for a fresh SIM card.
Opposing bail for the accused, police argued that the influential actor could manipulate or destroy evidence due to his wealth and substantial fan base.
Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan, was abducted on June 8 from Chitradurga and tortured to death allegedly by the 47-year-old actor and his gang for sending lewd messages to key accused Pavithra Gowda. So far, 17 people have been arrested, but the search for others involved continues.
