In a fervent display of dissent, left groups and students gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Thursday to protest against the legal charges faced by author Arundhati Roy and former Central University of Kashmir professor Sheikh Showkat Hussain under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The protest was ignited by Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena's recent sanction to prosecute Roy and Hussain for their alleged provocative speeches at a 2010 event titled 'Azadi – The Only Way,' which reportedly supported the separation of Kashmir from India.

Amidst banners and slogans demanding the removal of UAPA charges against the duo, members of the CPI-ML, alongside students from All India Students Association (AISA), observed a Prativad Divas or protest day, underscoring their solidarity and call for justice.
