Tejpal Singh, who aspired to join the Army, saw this dream realized but in a foreign land, and tragically, would never return home.

His wife, Parminder Kaur, shared the heart-wrenching details. 'My husband went to Thailand last December seeking a job. He then moved to Russia on January 12, where he joined the army,' Kaur told PTI from their family home in Palam Vihar.

'Just two days ago, a friend of his called to inform me that Singh had been killed on the battlefield in Ukraine,' she said, tears streaming down her face.

Singh had traveled to Russia on a tourist visa and was killed in March. The delay in receiving the news was due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Kaur explained.

The whereabouts of Singh's body remain unknown, adding to the family's anguish.

'Last night, we sent emails to the Russian army and the Ministry of External Affairs, urging them to facilitate the repatriation of his body for proper last rites,' Kaur added.

India confirmed on Tuesday that two of its nationals, who had been recruited by the Russian army, were killed in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, bringing the total to four Indian fatalities.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the Indian embassy in Moscow has been in contact with Russian authorities, including the Ministry of Defence, to ensure the early repatriation of the bodies.

India has demanded the swift release and return of all Indian nationals serving in the Russian army.

Earlier, 30-year-old Hyderabad resident Mohammed Asfan died from injuries received while fighting with Russian forces on the frontlines with Ukraine in March.

In February, Surat resident Hemal Ashwinbhai Mangua, aged 23, died in a Ukrainian air strike while serving as a 'security helper' in the Donetsk region.
