In a significant move to strengthen maritime ties, the Indian Navy's Kalvari Class Submarine, INS Vela, arrived at Colombo, Sri Lanka, on November 10 as part of its deployment. The Indian Navy shared on X, citing the ceremonial welcome received by the Defence Advisor in Colombo.
The visit is a vital component of India's SAGAR initiative, which underscores security and growth within the region. The submarine's visit marks a renewed emphasis on fostering friendship, cooperation, and interoperability between India and Sri Lanka, building upon a long-standing maritime relationship.
Featuring a 67.5-meter length and a crew led by Commander Kapil Kumar, INS Vela was welcomed with naval traditions. During its stay, the crew will engage in activities organized by the Sri Lanka Navy, promoting camaraderie, and exploring the country's attractions, before departing on November 13.
