External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has announced that India and China have agreed on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), aiming to restore the situation prior to the 2020 tensions. The agreement, a result of prolonged diplomatic efforts, holds promise for returning to pre-May 2020 status in the troubled eastern Ladakh region.
Speaking at the NDTV World Summit, Jaishankar described the agreement as 'positive and good,' noting it arose from persistent negotiations since September 2020. The deal is expected to facilitate a return to normal patrolling operations and bring peace and tranquility back to the border areas, strained by Chinese military actions in eastern Ladakh.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri further elaborated on the agreement, highlighting that it paves the way for eventual disengagement and resolution of pending issues. This understanding was achieved after extensive talks with Chinese interlocutors at multiple levels, reinforcing the vital role of both military and diplomatic channels in defusing border tensions.
